About InfraReDxScientists have known that different tissues demonstrate unique spectral properties when reflected light from these tissues is measured. These unique spectral properties can be used to discriminate between healthy and diseased tissue. By incorporating knowledge from clinical research, InfraReDx can develop algorithms that correlate reflected tissue signals to known patterns, producing cost-effective diagnostic devices that can determine the presence and progression of diseased tissue. The Near Infrared (NIR) Imaging System delivers light through blood into the coronary artery and measures the amount of light reflected from the wall. The reflection of different amounts of light at different wavelengths provides information about the wall of the artery that is converted into an image. The rapid acquisition speed for each pixel of the image (1/200 of a second) freezes the motion of the heart, and the automatic rotation and pullback permits scanning of the artery in less than 2 minutes. The system is designed to allow imaging of the coronary arteries in patients undergoing cardiac catheterization without the need to interrupt the flow of blood. Our MissionThe mission of InfraReDx, Inc. is to develop novel, photonic-based medical devices that will help improve the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases. The first initiative of InfraReDx is to develop a device that can identify lipid-rich coronary artery plaques – the structures suspected to be the cause of most heart attacks, the leading cause of death in the developed world. Identification of the vulnerable plaques that cause coronary artery events would lead to great benefits since many potential treatments already exist. BackgroundInfraReDx, Inc. is a privately-funded, emerging medical device company with expertise in photonics and medicine. The company, located in Burlington, MA, was founded in 1998 to meet the unmet medical need of identification of vulnerable coronary artery plaques. Initial studies have demonstrated that NIR spectroscopy can correctly identify lipid core containing plaques of interest in human coronary autopsy specimens. The Company has now developed a fiber-optic, catheter-based, near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy system designed to characterize the composition of coronary plaques in patients undergoing catheterization. The LipiScan Coronary Imaging System is cleared for clinical use by the FDA and can be purchased by calling 1-800-680-REDX. InfraReDx Quality PolicyInfraReDx is dedicated to the design, development, manufacture, and distribution of innovative products that improve clinical outcomes and meet the needs of healthcare providers and their patients. Led by management, the entire InfraReDx team shares the same responsibility for quality and the commitment to comply with regulatory requirements and maintain the effectiveness of the quality management system. Our success will be measured by continually improving product quality and customer satisfaction, while communicating quality objectives to the organization and its suppliers. |
